Cable skiing is a way to water ski or wakeboard , in which the skier’s rope and handle are pulled by an electrically-driven cable, whereas traditionally a waterskier is pulled by a motorboat. The mechanism consists of two cables running parallel to one another with carriers between them every 80 metres. The carriers are metal tubes that can hook up tow ropes with riders. Tow ropes are detached and attached at the same time without slowing the system down, which is a main reason for its high efficiency. With a main cable of metres long, 10 riders can waterski or wakeboard at the same time. The cable is generally suspended 26—30 feet 8—9 metres above the water. This makes for a different feel than when riding behind a boat, whether wakeboarding or water skiing. The higher angle of pull makes bigger “air” and sharper turns possible. Generally, on wakeboard-only cables, there are ramps and sliders for the riders to use.

It has been a long, cold, awesome snowy winter, but it is time to reunite with the H Greg Young, the owner of Northwest Riders Clothing , sat down with evo for a refresher on some of the most commonly asked questions about achieving the perfect pull, like: What speed do I pull a wakeboarder at? What is the optimal wakeboard rope length?

Advice on Pintle Hitches Tonym posted It came equipped with a pintle ring instead of a standard 2 inch ball receiver. I had to go out and purchase an adjustable pintle hitch in order to pick up the boat and trailer. I am ready to bring the rig over to a trailer company for some repairs and additions and I was curious if any one here had any experiences with pintle hitch on a boat trailer.
I would appreciate any feed back either negative or positive as compared to a standard ball hitch. Some of my trailering will be down in Baja California on some pretty dicey roads. Thanks, Tonym bitwrench posted The reciver does move around under braking etc.
How to Hook a Rope to a Ski Pylon
One line extends from the pylon to the loop twink. How long is this single line? How long is the ski line s attached to the “twink”? You can make one simply by using a fid to splice a section of nylon braided rope together in a loop. It attaches multiple ski rope ends together much in the same way as a slalom handle attaches to a rope.
Big Air ski pylons, wakeboard pylons and poles offer huge increases in wake jumps, altitude and distance, and work universally with any boat.
Always make sure you properly secure your tow rope to the ski pylon, before you begin a day of waterskiing. A safe and secure connection to the pylon ensures the skier does not unexpectedly detach from the boat, which could cause serious injury. Learn how to correctly attach your tow rope to the pylon, so you can enjoy the day — knowing that the skier is safely connected to the boat.
EasyInstructions Place the loop at the end of the tow rope around the pylon, below the eyelet or ring, on top of the pylon. The skier’s end of the rope should point aft, with the tip of the loop facing the front of the boat. Grasp the tip of the rope loop from the forward side of the ski pylon. You also know that not all ski pylons are equipped with a ring–some are simply a vertical post with the line tied around the top, meaning that the ski rope must be tied to the pylon so that it doesn’t slip to the bottom of the pylon.
A knot called the “round turn and two half hitches” is ideal. ModerateInstructions Wrap the “bitter end” or “working end” as the end of the line is known in the language of rope work around the top of the pylon not one time, but two called a round turn, this fully en.
Where to hook a tow rope
I am amazed I got 3 awesome replies within a couple hours of posting this message. I can’t wait to get home form work and look into my problem of tacking the remaining rope issue. I am going to step back a bit in my rope story and tell you very helpful folks that it was not even a ski rope or tube rope I got caught. I have used my bros little speedster over the years and knew well enough to keep the rope out of the intake. The family and I were just finishing up a full 2 days at the lake trying to get the 10h breaking complete to get the oil change and service.
I sent my wife and child with the truck and trailer to the dock and was going to drive the boat over to load up for the night, about a 1 mile quick trip down the lake.

Before setting out for a day of water sporting fun, you must familiarize yourself with the equipment used to pull people safely behind a boat. Ski tow hooks simplify the connection between a towline and the back of a boat, but you need to know exactly how the two pieces of equipment connect. Connecting them incorrectly will change your day from fun to frustrating. Close your hand loosely around the line, leaving the end loop hanging past your palm.
You want to grip it tightly enough that your palm and all fingers contact the rope, but loose enough that the rope stills pulls through your hand. Inspect the loop hanging past your palm. Grab the loop with your free hand and pull the rope slowly.
Medina The right knot keeps ski rope attached to the boat. Water-sports can be a fun way to soak up the sun, enjoy your friends and get some exercise. Equipment that is safe and functional is essential, though. A self-cinching knot will keep the rope used for water skiing and wake boarding out of the water when under tension.

Tue Mar 25, 2: If you get the towed boat back behind the jet wash and into the wake vee it seems as if the boat will follow the tow boat very well, even around fairly sharp corners the wake will hold the boat in between the vee and keep it from swinging out wide, potentially into bad places. The set-up I am using is a sling like everyone else with the loops in the sling just big enough to slip over the rear welded cleats.
That way it is just a matter of slipping the rope on, no hookup time needed. If you have standard side mount kicker I really don’t know what you would do for towing. I would really not want to try towing a boat of the ski tow ring in the center. I run a crappy little 4 HP kicker that I can take off in about 10 seconds and set in the bottom of the boat. My tow rope has a loop tied into it and just slips over the sling rope so that if I cut the sling on one side the whole thing will slide apart and come unhooked.
I would go take a picture of the whole set-up if it wasn’t raining so damn hard outside.
